Once upon a story there were three mice., Jack Jill and John, Jack Jill and John lived in a big house at the end of the road. It was very, very tall house. It had three floors and great big windows.
When Jack Jill and John were very tired at night, they would sleep in the window seat inside the second floor, and watch the world go by.
They would watch the stars shine up above them.
They would watch the trees bending in the wind.
They would watch the moonlight over the trees.
They would watch the passers by the nature of foxes outside, All in all, they were glad they had this wonderful view from their two story house.
Now, what happened is that Jack and Jill and John thought they would play a game. So one night, when it was dark outside and the lights were on in the house, they decided to play hide and seek in the house.
It's a big house.
They had three bedrooms on each floor. kitchen, living room, and a sitting room.
It was a big house to play hide and seek in, but they thought they'd try.
Jack thought, okay, I will go to the kitchen and hide in one of the cupboards.
So Jill started counting, she was counting 10, 9, 8.
Jack' scurried off and into the kitchen and hid in one of the cupboards.
John, on the other hand, had a great idea he would climb up a curtain and hide up there
Then when Jill came looking, she wouldn't he wouldn't find him.
So off the two mice head and Jill said, okay, ready, I am coming out to find you.
Then she went room by room into in the house and worked her way through.
It was really hard work because she she would go in, it was a bit dark, so she'd have to turn the light on by crawling up with light switch and turn the four light on.
She would have to check in every corner and under this curtain, under the sofa, in the cupboards, in behind the TV and finally, she found Jack in the kitchen.
But, John wasn't in the kitchen.
John was in the curtain. in the sitting room, at the top of the curtain, which she yanked the curtain a little bit, just to see, and he came tumbling down and said, Jill, you found me, you found me.
Of course I found you.
“Jack, John was sitting on top of the curtain, of course I was going to look there.”
Jack said “I was hiding in the kitchen, not in the bedrooms at all. “
Ok let’s do some more exploring around the house. they came across a cat. Oh my gosh, there's a cat in the house?
Well, there wasn't a cat before. Where's this cat come from? Oh, wait a minute, it's not a real cat. It's a stuffed cat.
How come we didn't see this cat before? Oh, it smells. Ooh, it feels funny. It smelled funny.
So Jack, Jill and John left that room and went into their bedroom. And
Now, that was just hide and seek in this house, but all the games took a long time in this big old house. They really liked it because it was warm and cosy, but also, the view was great, and they didn't have to share it with anybody else.
There were only three mice, Jack Jill and John. and they loved it.
Now, what happened one day as well as playing hide and seek, they decided to play a second game.
The second game was called Drafts, and so they thought, hold on a minute. Drafts isn't for mice, he said.
Yes, it is, yes, it is. of course it's for mice.
So they got the drafts board, laid it open. and then started moving the pieces around on the board. So they put the pieces on the board.
Jack and Jill, were on the black team and John was on the white team.
And so they put the pieces on the diagonally across the board and then they started, and Jack and Jill thought, okay, let's let's start with a nice opening.
Then John counted. and they played on for a lineout for at least 10 minutes. And when the game was done, she say, oh my gosh, that was so tiring.
Why is it so tiring, John?
Because you really studied it and you really made me think about my moves. Well, isn't that the whole point there? Yes, it is, but it's still tiring, for a mouse brain like me.
So they finished playing drafts and then that was the second night after the night of the hide and seek.
Now, it was still, and the moon was still bright, this night.
This is the third night. And now they were wondering, well, the moon's bright, there's lots to see in the garden. So what do we do inside the house, apart from hide and seek, and drafts? We've played drafts. Let's do something different.
Let's tell each other stories.
But hold on a minute, you're telling a story. How can we the mouse tell stories in the same way because you're human, you speak different to the mice.
The mice speak mice language. So whatever would say you would let the narrator finish the story and then maybe the mice can have their own story later.
So., the three mice stayed in the house, but other the fourth day after the hide and seek, they were watching during the day.
They were watching the people outside walked past and they were big lumbering people and they wondered, well, what if we ran behind them and made a little noises, see if they turned around and see if they came after us.
Let's do that. Let's play with them a little bit. So Jack and Jill went first and John was watching just in case there was trouble. Jack and Jill went and chased.
After a couple of people, and they followed their feet as they walked past, and then they Jack and Jill kind of went at them. They kind of flung himself at their shoes. She wanted to see what they would do.
The people, the big lumbering people look down and go, oh's that a mouse? “Is that a mouse?” “Oh, my gosh.”
And then there was a woman who screamed, it's a mouse, it's a mouse! Oh, no. And then Jack was, oh, no, this is too much, , let's just go back. Let's go back.
Okay, so they went back and to the house, Jill and Jack went back to the house, and John, went, “oh, thank goodness, I thought you were gone. I thought they were going to scream and squash you or something.”
“No, no, she wouldn't do that. But I did think she was scared of us. I think that's what was going on. I don't think she was screaming to the others, just shocked herself.
So, John laughed and said, it's funny, you know, we play games with just bumping into them and they did not step on us or trample us. She just started screaming. I don't understand these lumbering big great big humans, they scream but they don’t do anything, they just hop around screaming.
Jack and Jill said, yeah yeah, I know, I know. It's really strange. We must be strange to them, right?
I mean, we're mouths, we're brown and furry, but they think very strange.
Do you think they will try and chase us.
They couldn't chase us, could they? They could smell us. Maybe they could smell us. No, their noses are too far off the ground.
Maybe they could eat us as food. I don't know. So now, of course, Jack and Jill, where had been chasing the humans and John who had been watching came over, and Jack and Jill said,”Okay, John, your turn, let's you and me go and see what's at the back garden of the house, see what's there. might be some food or some biscuits or something, let's go and see.
So Jill and John went and Jack was watching from the window of the house, and they went around to the back of their backyard of the house and they thought, okay, so let's see, there's a pond over here, there's a grass bank over here, there's a there's a wooden pile of wood over here. Oh, all very exciting.
Oh, look, there's lots of baby crawlies in the pile of wood. Let's have a look. Oh, my God, we can eat them. Take a minute, you go first, it's gonna eat them.
And then Jack and John, you can't just leave off creepy crawlies.
We've got to eat something else. So let's go and find some biscuits.
Now, the biscuits aren't in the back garden, but behind the door of the back garden in the kitchen.
Let's go there. Okay, so off they scurried it into the kitchen, and Jill said, "Oh, you're back in the kitchen, are you? Come on in. It's fancy food here.
Oh, look, there's some biscuits in the cupboard. Let's get those, let's get those." So all three of them opened the cupboard door together and then there was a big pack of biscuits.
But they were not in a plastic wrapper.
They were a paper wrapper. This house was sustainability conscious. They cared about recycling, so they didn't buy plastic wrapper, biscuits.
They bought paper wrapping, paper wrapped biscuits. And so they are the mice just chewed a little bit of the paper and little opened it up, and there they were, having biscuits, and they thought, well, we don't need tea.
We' not like humans. silly humans needing Tea with their biscuits. We can just eat biscuits. We're happy with our biscuits in a kitchen, in our big house, all three of us together Jack, Jill and John.
The end.
