Gorillas In the Forest

Once upon a story, there lived a family of gorillas in the forest of central Africa.

They were very peaceful, and just loved to graze in the forest all day long.

Their homeland

One day the gorillas, Jody, Rocky & Gertrude, were looking for new places to find plants and insects, to eat. They walked down the path with the rocky pool, and turned round in the corner to see men there.

The men had big axes and were chopping down the trees.

This was very sad for the gorillas as the gorillas liked eating the plants, and insects there.

So the gorillas grunted loudly and came running to the tree, and scared the men away.

The farmers

The men that were chopping down the trees in the gorillas homes, were looking to build a farm there, so they were going to come back.   Jody, Rocky and Gertrude talked about what to do.  They were very worried.  They thought the men would come back.  They had a choice, run or fight for their homes.

Since they were exploring for new plants and places to eat, they thought two of them could do that, and Rocky could keep a watch out for the men to warn the others in the tribe.   So that's what they did.

Rocky was watching one day, for any sign of the men.   Jody and Gertrude were on exploring duty gathering leaves and fruit for the baby ones to eat.

Rocky cried out, "There are men coming" - Rocky stomped in front of the men, and shrieked at them.   The men were still carrying axes and did not wait to find out more, they ran away.

"Phew" thought Rocky to himself. I did not want them to find the new place Jody and Gertrude had found.

Their plan was working, Jody and Gertrude exploring for new trees and plants, and Rocky watching the path in so that the men did not follow.

Once Jody and Gertrude had found a new place with trees, and fruit a plenty,

Rocky was happy.

The men could come in that area and have their farm there if that's what they wanted.   The gorillas had moved to a different part of the forest.

But Rocky suspected that the farmers would follow them whichever part of the forest they went into, and destroy the trees, to make houses.

This was worrying, to him.   But for now, there was food a plenty and the girls were safe, so he kept an eye on the men, and if they got too close, he would scare them every so often so they would keep their distance.

Rocky, Jody and Gertrude lived happily with their young, and ate in the forest.

The end.
